  2. studied with Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt,
  3. and in 1857 married Cosima, daughter of
  4. Liszt. From 1864 he served Ludwig II of
  5. Bavaria, conducting first performances of
  6. Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and Die
  7. Meistersinger. His wife left him and married
  8. Wagner in 1870.
